Transfers and Appliqués
How long should I wait before I wash what I’ve made?
We recommend waiting 72 hours after applying the iron-on transfer before washing the fabric.
How should I prepare my fabric before applying the iron-on transfer?
Pre-wash all fabrics using no liquid softener or dryer sheets. Let dry and press out any wrinkles.
Why should I wash my fabric before applying the transfer?
We recommend washing your fabric to remove sizing. Sometimes the sizing will prevent the transfer from adhering properly and can cause the transfer to peel off.
How do I apply the iron-on transfer?
To apply iron-on transfer, place fabric on a hard surface such as a table or counter covered with a smooth, thin towel. Position transfer on fabric, transfer side down. Iron on transfer with a firm, even, circular motion for one minute.
Let paper cool completely, about 2 minutes. Starting at one corner, slowly peel backing paper away from fabric, making sure design has completely transferred. Continue to gently peel backing paper away from fabric in a smooth, continuous motion. If design does not adhere to fabric, carefully replace backing paper and repeat steps.
How should I wash my garment or fabric?
Turn fabric inside out. Machine wash according to fabric instructions. Do not use harsh detergents or bleach. Remove promptly and line dry. To iron, turn garment inside out, being careful not to touch design with iron. Do not dry clean.
What is the proper setting for my iron in order to apply transfer?
Preheat iron to a setting between 325 and 350 (wool and cotton). If using a steam iron, remove all water from the iron, as moisture will ruin the transfer. If necessary iron fabric prior to applying the transfer to remove any wrinkles.
What are the best fabrics for applying iron-on transfers?
Tulip iron-on transfers can be ironed on to most machine-washable fabrics, including cotton, poly/cotton blends, canvas, denim and all colors of fabric.
My transfer is peeling up, now what?
Carefully apply appropriate glue to the lifted section of the transfer and press to surface with fingertips. This will bond it to the fabric.
